Happy Socktober! "In October 2011, creator Brad Montague realized there was a large homeless population in his hometown, and he wanted to do something about it. While researching the needs of the homeless community, he learned that socks are the items least donated to homeless shelters. So Brad took action. He began to film himself wishing people “Happy Socktober!” as he gave out pairs of socks on the streets, and he posted these videos on social media."
The Vybe Salon honors their sweet grandmother each year in their sock fundraiser! Every year since 2016 Vybe Salon has collected and gathered socks during the cold months and distributed them to missions, foster children, and the houseless population in our area. They carry on a tradition that their late grandmother did with so much love. She made sure each individual in her large immediate family received a pair of warm socks for Christmas. She was a farm worker's wife who cleaned houses and ironed clothes for many years for living and raised 8 children. Even as adults their grandmother never forgot the grandchildren or spouses and there was NOTHING like the warm pair of cozy socks received from her.
Nikki from Vybe Salon says, "This year we don't necessarily have a goal other than to make it the biggest one yet and to reach as many people as we can in our community. It's so unfortunate what the cold can do to someone whose body may already be compromised by their health or lifestyle. Last year there were a few of Clean Sweep's community members that lost toes. The need is real and worth so much to people who truly need warm clean socks."
The salon will distribute the socks collected in large quantities as needed to the outreach program Clean Sweep of TriCities. They are currently taking donations until Dec 2nd. They are also offering a giveaway as an incentive! Family of Four haircut and style drawing for participants! Thank you for your generosity Vybe Salon!
