When we moved to the Tri-Cities I was bound and determined to start living and eating more locally! I was so excited to learn about the several farmers markets options - (see guide here) and was sure that I would visit weekly. But I soon found that things are easier said than done. Two littles under the age of 4 made that tricky. Then I got pregnant with number three and was soooo sick. Grocery delivery came through for me often. Local produce was just a thing that I always stopped for if I happened to be out and about and see a street stand. I wish that I would have known about Local Pumpkin Produce Box those first two years! They are a perfect option for families with young kids, families with older kids, even with teenagers, and elderly couples too. Get your produce delivered right to your door, from the farms closest to you! With 5 different subscription box options, plus milk, coffee, eggs, flowers, and bananas available for weekly delivery, you can get the weekly necessities without any thought - but with all the enjoyment! Something else I love is that they offer weekly or biweekly subscriptions, plus skip a week with no penalties when needed.
Our family decided to start out with the Family Box subscription plus a gallon of raw whole milk -- mmmmmm. For $50 here is what we received:
- Half Dozen Gorgeous Organic Sugar Dot Ears of Corn
- A Watermelon
- Organic Red potatoes
- Bing Cherries
- 1 Large Head of Lettuce, and a Spicy Salad Greens Mix - No ranch needed on our salad! We recommend just a bit of olive oil and lemon juice drizzled on top.
- 2 zucchini - sauteed those up on the stove, seriously favorite part of our dinner tonight - even next to the smoked free-range chicken thighs we purchased aside from the produce box. The key to those is Low and Slow. And sprinkle generously with minced dried onion!
- Sweet yellow and red cherry tomatoes. My kids ate those without any ranch - like candy!
- Plus, plenty of yummy donut peaches, nectarines, and peaches - Most of those had already been eaten by the time I took this photo... teehee.
Additionally, I opted for some locally caught fish, my kids love fish, it has excellent benefits - and I definitely feel better about it coming from close by, organic blueberries from Mt. Hood - the taste of those brought back such sweet childhood memories of picking the berries by the bushel, there specifically, pork sausage that reminded me of my teenage farm days, and some delightfully dark tasting whole chocolate milk from Creamline Farms for my chocomilk-aholic husband.
Besides produce, there are meat products, eggs, milk, baked goods, snacks and at home meal kits for purchase.
When you shop with Local Pumpkin Produce Box you are supporting Tri-Cities' local economy through farmers and small businesses. Want to see how they do it?! They are offering tours this weekend for free, plus samples!
